UGA: Studio Foundations Tenure Track

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN STUDIO FOUNDATIONS

The Lamar Dodd School of Art of the University of Georgia invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in the Studio Foundations area, beginning at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Responsibilities include teaching first-year studio courses in drawing, color and composition, three-dimensional design and possibly in an area of specialization.  The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to teaching studio foundations and the potential to work with the faculty to expand the foundation program.  Special consideration will be given to those applicants who have a strong interest in integrating concepts in time, space and light related to digital images, installation and multi-media projects.  He/she should demonstrate an interest in contemporary art and criticism and an awareness of critical issues facing foundation curricula.

Currently, the studio foundation area has two full-time faculty appointments, with participation from other faculty, part-time instructors and graduate teaching assistants.  It is imperative that the candidate assist in mentoring graduate teaching assistants, contribute to team building and participate in creating a shared vision. Candidates are required to have an M.F.A. degree in Art, and teaching experience beyond the TA level or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

Specialization in any two- or three-dimensional art, including studio art, design, architecture or time-based media, is acceptable for this position.  The successful candidate must be committed to his/her creative work and demonstrate potential for outstanding achievement in the professional discipline commensurate with the research mission of the University of Georgia.  He/she must show success in teaching and possess excellent communication and organization skills.  He/she should be interested in a wide variety of media and diverse approaches to studio art and expect to participate in student advising, mentoring, faculty governance, and other aspects in the life of the School of Art.

The University of Georgia, a research institution in the state university system with over 30,000 students, is located in Athens, Georgia, a town of 90,000, one hour from Atlanta.  The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia has 55 full-time faculty members in Studio Art, Design, Art Education and Art History, administering undergraduate and graduate programs to over 1,000 majors.  In addition to the main campus in Athens, the University of Georgia maintains and is expanding its list of study abroad programs around the world.  Highlighting these programs is the Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.
