The Lamar Dodd School of Art invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position as Director of the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.
Candidates for the Director of the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program, Cortona, Italy will be appointed at the Associate Professor level or commensurate with experience. This position will report to the Director of the Lamar Dodd School of Art. The candidate must have demonstrated leadership abilities. He/She is responsible for managing the program and developing a vision for its future. The successful candidate must be committed to international studies in higher education. He/She must have an appropriate terminal degree and demonstrate outstanding accomplishment in his/her professional discipline. The candidate will show success in teaching and administration, including exceptional management skills and financial acumen, an appreciation for faculty governance and an enthusiasm for recruitment and fundraising. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse faculty in the Lamar Dodd School of Art as well as faculty from other departments and from other universities. Ideally, the candidate will be conversant in Italian or will be expected to further develop his/her Italian language skills as needed. The director will be expected to split his/her time between Cortona, Italy and Athens, Georgia.
Cortona is a walled, hill town in Tuscany with an Etruscan origin. It is situated at a comfortably cool and invigorating 2,200 feet elevation, surrounded by beautiful olive groves, vineyards, and rich valley farmland. The town itself is a veritable museum with fine examples of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture. Established in 1970, the University of Georgia Studies Aboard Program in Cortona, Italy offers courses in the fall, spring and summer terms. The program offers full academic credit on the undergraduate and graduate level, and provides a challenging opportunity for the serious student who wishes to combine travel with an intensive period of studio and classroom study in Italy.
