Assistant Professor – Tenure Track

The Sculpture Department at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a dynamic faculty member for a tenure-track position. Applicants must have an active exhibition record, college level teaching experience, an MFA, or equivalent professional experiences. The successful candidate will teach all levels of undergraduate and graduate sculpture. All of our faculty are full participants in sharing academic advising and committee work.  We are looking for a candidate with a broad range of skills, both technical and intellectual. We seek enthusiastic applicants with an active studio practice whose conceptual and creative interests are wide-ranging.

The Sculpture Department’s MFA program is currently ranked 1st in the nation by U.S News & World Report. The department houses 100 undergraduate majors, 12 graduate MFA students, five full time studio faculty and several part time faculty. Our program supports studio practices that range widely in methods and inquiry. Our state-of-the-art studio facility contains a well equipped wood shop with a 3-axis CNC router, a 4000 sq. ft. metal fabrication shop that also includes an induction foundry, a 22 station computer lab with video editing, a 3D laser scanner and an ABS plastic prototyper, as well as designated critique and installation spaces. These resources allow for a robust interpretation of contemporary sculptural practice stretching from the constructed to the performative.. VCU’s School of the Arts is an excellent environment in which to teach with significant allowance for faculty research.
