One Year Visiting Assistant Professor / Art Foundation / Graphic Design


Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an outstanding designer and active professional to teach in the Art Foundation Program and work in affiliation with the Graphic Design Department in the School of the Arts.  Applicants will be charged with teaching two-dimensional studio courses.   Art Foundation is a demanding program requiring faculty who are rigorous, organized and sensitive to the issues of first year education. The teaching load will be a 2/2 with 3 courses in the Art Foundation Program and 1 devoted to the faculty’s affiliated department of Graphic Design.  The position’s University and Department service responsibilities will be in the Art Foundation Program.

Art Foundation is a one-year program required of all Art and Design majors in VCU’s School of the Arts.  Students apply at the end of their first year of Art Foundation for admittance to the Fine Art and Design programs including: Art Education, Communication Arts, Craft/Material Studies, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Kinetic Imaging, Painting and Printmaking, Photography and Film, and Sculpture + Extended Media.  Applicants must have an MFA or equivalent, teaching experience beyond graduate school and an active professional record. This is a one-year, visiting assistant professor position, starting August 16, 2010, salary commensurate with experience.
