Job Qualifications: 
Under the broad direction of the Dean and closely collaborating with the School’s senior staff and involved University officials, the Director plans, develops, implements and manages a high profile, comprehensive series of exhibitions and public programs for Tyler School of Art; including up to three professional exhibitions, as well as the Wolgin prize exhibitions(s) each year during the fall and winter; and oversees the MFA student exhibitions in the spring. The Director must balance the deployment of effective functional strategic planning, financial planning and budgeting with the operational realities of fund raising/development, sound business practices, marketing, public speaking and audience development to creatively and professionally achieve and maintain the School’s vision of consistent recognition and critical acclaim for this series. The incumbent writes and prepares grant proposals, manages budget accounts, fiscal year projection recommendations, does external fundraising on behalf of the gallery, supervises internal support staff and students, in addition to providing direction and guidance over external individuals connected with the delivery and set up of Exhibition Artwork. The incumbent must continually seek to form and reinforce productive partnerships and collaborative relationships with appropriate individuals and entities as a means of establishing a unifying force in the life of the school, university, regional arts community and general regional community. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Required Education and Experience:
Relevant Master’s degree (preferably in the fine arts or art history) and at least five or more years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in the visual arts with strong exposure to art gallery or museum management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
 
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated curatorial experience in the form of exhibitions developed and implemented.
*Experience developing and implementing educational programs within an art setting and throughout the larger community.
*Demonstrated experience managing a budget and staff.
*Fundraising experience with specific examples of success.
*Must be both a curator and executive with strong management skills; capable of planning, carrying out and delegating the work essential to growth of the program.
*Strong organizational, customer service and interpersonal skills; along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, artists, university community and the community at large.
*Ability to form productive partnerships and build collaborative relationships with appropriate individuals and entities throughout the school, university, regional arts community and general regional community.
*Knowledge of applicable professional principles, university policies and procedures, in addition to financial and budgeting principles.
*Ability to manage projects, working knowledge of all applicable computer software, and management skills (including planning, negotiation, and communication skills).
