Dean of the College of the Arts and Media

Central Michigan University (CMU) invites applications and nominations for the position of dean of the College of the Arts and Media (CAM). The dean of the College of the Arts and Media is responsible for all operations of the College and provides leadership regarding graduate and undergraduate education and national caliber research and creative works both on- and off-campus. The dean reports to the executive vice president/provost and is a member of the Council of Deans, Academic Senate, and Academic Planning Council. 

The dean works closely with the other academic college deans, and the senior vice provosts, as well as other administrative leaders, department chairs, and program coordinators.  The academic units that comprise the College include the Departments of Art and Design, Communication, Journalism, and Theater & Dance and the Schools of Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and Music. In addition, the College houses significant interdisciplinary programs in Integrative Public Relations; Musical Theatre; Marching Band; and Multimedia Design. Additionally, the dean and other CMU leaders are responsible for encouraging and supporting the growth and development of faculty, staff, and students to advance CMU’s culture of excellence.

The successful candidate should possess a terminal degree in any of the disciplines offered within the College, including academic achievements appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor in a unit within the College. In addition, the dean should have: 

  • Previous leadership experience as a school director, department chair, or experience in a similar administrative position.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial planning. 
  • Evidence of innovative program development. 
  • Evidence of effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance. 
  • A successful record of securing external funding, including both alumni fundraising and corporate and foundation support. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to and support for academic technologies relevant to college operations. 
  • Demonstrated interest in promoting and fostering distance and online education programs. 
  • Experience establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships at the university level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocacy for the disciplines represented within the College.
  • An understanding of and commitment to public higher education, its faculty, and its students. 
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment. 
  • Experience with research, assessment, and accreditation.

The School of Art and Design within the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Art History with an emphasis in European Art History before 1700. Candidates with research specializations in Ancient, Medieval, or Early Modern art are invited to apply. The ability to teach in a second area having a global reach or addressing historically marginalized topics would be especially welcome. Teaching responsibilities include a 3/3 load, from introductory to advanced courses on a range of pre-modern topics. Courses would consist of lectures and seminars, mainly at the undergraduate level, with some graduate student enrollment. 

Located in Western NY, Alfred University is the second oldest co-educational college in the United States and one of the earliest to have enrolled African American and Native American students. Applicants should show evidence of a promising research agenda and demonstrate an appreciation of issues that matter to our university community, such as interdisciplinarity, diversity, and social justice. School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University

Adjunct Instructor of Art History, pre-modern European Art: Medieval, Renaissance, or Baroque periods

The School of Art and Design within the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University seeks applicants for a temporary, full-time Adjunct Instructor position in Art History for Spring 2022, with an emphasis in a pre-modern, European area of art, such as Medieval, Early Modern/Renaissance, or Baroque. Candidates should be able to teach an introductory course in a second, non-European area.

Teaching responsibilities include the following 12-credit hours: 

  • Half-term (7 weeks) introductory course on European Medieval or Renaissance or Baroque art (enrollment 40)
  • Half-term (7 weeks) introductory course in a second area having a global reach or addressing historically marginalized topics, for example Islamic, African, Native American, Pacific Islands (enrollment 40)
  • Upper-level (mainly junior/senior students) course on European Medieval or Renaissance or Baroque art (enrollment 16)

 Qualifications

Required: College-level teaching experience. PhD preferred but ABD considered, in Art History or related field. The start date for the position is January  2022. We will consider remote/online teaching on a case-by-case basis. Candidate must be familiar with Canvas, our campus LMS. Introductory classes will have a TA.
